Open Question: How to I stop my Droid Eris from doing this.?

The other day my Droid Eris died and shut down now when I unlock it or exit a application this black screen that say HTC on it pops up. Then it disappears and it takes for ever for my home screen to load, It takes forever and its annoying. How do I stop it from going to the HTC screen. It never used to before my phone shut off. I looked in ownwe manual and cant find anything.
