Open Question: Do I need to buy the INTERNET package for Verizon in order to have the DROID?!?

I'm really interested in this phone DROID ERIS by HTC for Verizon. I can get this phone as long as i dont buy the internet package because my dads a cheap man. I know this sounds dumb but im not going to use the internet at all. Do i have to buy the internet package with this phone?
